BFRIS v1.0 DEMO Quick Start Release date: 3 February 1999 LINUX INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS: 1) you must have a 3Dfx card with working glide libraries already installed to play BFRIS. You must be root to use the 3Dfx glide library, so you might as well be root to install the demo. 2) Create a temporary installation directory and go there: % mkdir /tmp/BFRISinst % cd /tmp/BFRISinst 3) Unzip the BFDemo10.exe file using your unix unzip utility: % unzip BFDemo10.exe This will unpack the setup files and the data directory disk1. To begin the install process, run the setup program: % ./setup read the license agreement, follow instructions, BFRIS installs, play BFRIS. Shoot stuff. Become horribly addicted. Find Windows players on-line to shoot up. Buy ten copies of the game from us because you can't stand just playing one at a time. WINDOWS INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS: 1) select the BFDemo10.exe file, and unpack the distribution into a convenient temporary directory. 2) change to the directory where you unpacked the install distribution and run the SETUP.EXE program. 3) Follow the InstallShield instructions. Read the license agreement. Install BFRIS. Play BFRIS. Shoot stuff. Become horribly addicted. Find Linux players on-line and teach them some manners. QUICK PLAY INSTRUCTIONS: When you run bfris (under linux by running /usr/local/bin/bfris, under windows by starting BFRIS from the start menu), you will first see the configuration program. For starters, just try running the game to see how well it plays. There's always time to tweek stuff later on. KEYBOARD CONTROLS: When the main BFRIS program starts, you'll see a short recorded demo mission; pressing 'h' during this mission will bring up the help menu with all of the keyboard controls available. Pressing will bring up the main BFRIS menu, where you can play through the three demo missions or join a network game. DEMO NETWORK RESTRICTIONS: The demo game only allows players to log on to servers which are running m2.map and are playing either Free-For-All or Tag team play modes. The demo does come with a server which can run m2.map in either FFA or Tag modes. Check out the RISWatch Megaserver to find games near you with people to shoot up.
